Flickerfest to bring exciting program of short films to the NT

A collection of some of Australia’s best short films will tour Alice Springs, Katherine and Darwin as part of Flickerfest’s national touring program.

Flickerfest is a world-renowned short-film festival that sees thousands of films submitted each year by established and budding film producers in the hope their entry gets screened at the prestigious Oscar qualifying festival.

The Best of Australian Shorts will show in each of the three Territory locations. The collection of nine shorts highlights the unique identity and culture of Australia and includes two stunning films by Territorians – First Drop, written by Damon van der Schuit and produced by Emma Alix Smith and Bridget May, and Darwin Story by Natasha Tonkin.

The Alice Springs screening will also include the Best of International Shorts, while the Darwin program will include Short Laughs Comedy.

Flickerfest Director Bronwyn Kidd said: “Flickerfest’s national touring program is a great opportunity for lovers of film to meet the filmmakers, catch the best of Australian and International short films from Flickerfest’s world class festival selection without having to travel interstate”.

“Our NT tour has become a much anticipated annual cultural event and we look forward to sharing this year’s handpicked shorts with our NT audiences and showcasing the talent of NT filmmakers.”

Flickerfest will be in Alice Springs on Friday, 22 March and Saturday, 23 March, in Katherine on Thursday, 25 July and in Darwin on Saturday, 27 July.

In Alice Springs people can join a free AFTRS X Flickerlab panel, on Saturday, 23 March from 3 – 4pm, and go behind the scenes with Damon van der Schuit and his team as they discuss the making of First Drop. Registration is essential.

The Flickerfest national tour is supported by the Northern Territory Government through Northern Territory Major Events Company Event Funding Program. Tickets for all Flickerfest NT festival events and registration for AFTRS X Flickerlab, can be purchased online at www.flickerfest.com.au/tour
