Best in Aussie music to perform at 2020 People’s Choice BASSINTHEGRASS

People’s Choice BASSINTHEGRASS music festival returns in 2020 with a plethora of nationally and internationally-renowned artists to perform at Darwin’s iconic Mindil Beach on Saturday, 23 May 2020.

With more national artists yet to be announced, this year’s People’s Choice BASSINTHEGRASS is shaping up to be another stellar festival with the likes of multi award-winner Missy Higgins, electronic duo Peking Duk, electronic indie band Safia, and hip-hop artist ILLY taking to the stage.

Following a sold-out event and record-breaking crowd of 10,000 people at the 2019 event, a third stage will be added to this year’s festival, treating music fans of all ages to 10 hours of non-stop, live music.

Now heading into its 18th year, this is the second time the festival will be held on Darwin’s Mindil Beach, where festivalgoers will be treated to the best of the Territory’s endless summer with tropical, balmy weather and vibrant sunsets.

Returning to People’s Choice BASSINTHEGRASS for the second year, Safia lead singer Ben Woolner, said the band is looking forward to returning to the Top End.

“It’s always a treat to be a part of People’s Choice BASSINTHEGRASS. There’s a genuine appreciation for the music shown by both the audience and organisers,” he said.

“To have the opportunity to play an event of this calibre in a beautiful city like Darwin is a no brainer for us.”

Thelma Plum, who recently became Hottest 100’s highest ranking Indigenous artist, said she couldn’t wait to play at People’s Choice BASSINTHEGRASS as well.

“It’s the first time I have played the festival and I haven’t been to Darwin in literally years,” she said.

“It’s also the first time I get to play songs off Better in Blak in the Top End, which is super exciting.”

Northern Territory Major Events Company Head of Major Events Sally Jarvis said this year’s People’s Choice BASSINTHEGRASS is better than ever, with a slew of great Aussie talent.

“People’s Choice BASSINTHEGRASS has become an iconic Darwin event and has earnt its spot as a must-do on the Australian festival calendar, attracting music lovers from all over the country looking to extend their summer and escape the chilly weather down south,” she said.

“Festival goers this year will be spoilt for choice with an outstanding line-up, an extra stage and the perfect vantage point for a famous Darwin sunset.”
