Travelling to Darwin

Situated on the edge of a harbour bigger than Sydney's, Darwin is a beautiful, fascinating tropical city – a melting pot of people and cultures that prides itself in its unique and friendly laid-back lifestyle.


May to September is known as the Dry season and is the most popular time of the year with visitors and locals. The humidity is at its lowest and the nights can become relatively cool. Although it is cooler it is important to drink plenty of water, wear sunscreen and a hat – especially whilst enjoying the racing action trackside.

With international standard restaurants, shopping malls, marinas, a vibrant waterfront and beach-side casino; there is something for all tastes and budgets. The Darwin CBD is approximately a 15 minute drive from the Darwin International Airport. Getting Here

The vibrant capital city of Darwin is closer to Asia than any other capital city in Australia and is only a three to four hour plane ride from most Australian capital cities. Domestic carriers Qantas, Jetstar, Virgin Blue, SkyWest, Vincent Aviation, Tigerair (commencing April 2014) and Airnorth all fly regularly to Darwin. Darwin is frequented by a growing number of international carriers including Air Asia, Malaysia Airlines, Philippine Airlines & SilkAir.

Book well in advance to secure your flights and accommodation as visiting Darwin in June is a peak travelling period.

The Ghan

Boarding The Ghan in Adelaide or Darwin, experience one of the most fascinating great train journeys of the world. Connections are available on the Indian Pacific and The Overland for guests travelling to or from Sydney and Melbourne.

Getting Around 

Darwin Public Bus Network

A regular and reliable bus service runs between the Harry Chan Avenue interchange just minutes from the top of the city Mall, and the other major interchanges at Casuarina Square and Palmerston.

Airport Shuttle

There is an airport shuttle bus which will drop you off or pick you up from nearly anywhere in the city. However, you must book one day in advance when travelling to the airport.
