Parrtjima: Red Centre Ready to Light up

Alice Springs Desert Park and Todd Mall is set to host thousands of national and international visitors over the next 10 days, with Parrtjima – A Festival in Light 2019 officially opening tonight.

In its fourth year, the free annual event runs from Friday, 5 April to Sunday, 14 April and allows locals and tourists alike to enjoy an exciting program of stunning artworks, large scale light installations, workshops, talks, talks, films and live music.

For the first time, Parrtjima – A Festival in Light is being held in April, and will be visited by thousands of people, extending the tourist season and providing a boost to the economy.

New installations crafted around the 2019 festival theme of ‘Language Expressions’ are expected to draw large crowds across both festival precincts, and include an oversized maze, an illuminated tunnel, large handcrafted sculptures and much more.

Internationally-acclaimed Australian hip hop artist Baker Boy and Australian singer-songwriter Moju Juju will also feature in this year’s Parrtjima festival as part of the entertaining live music program.

Additionally, visitors will have the opportunity to soak up the stories, sounds and rhythms of Central Australia through talks, workshops, music and films included in the Knowledge Program, back again in 2019 following its popularity in 2018.

Members of the public are invited to attend Todd Mall tonight from 7pm for the official opening of the CBD precinct, before the Alice Springs Desert Park precinct is officially opened at 8pm.
