Nitro up North to wow crowds tonight

Motorsports mania is taking over the Top End, with thousands of fans ready to head out to Hidden Valley for the Merlin Darwin Triple Crown.

The on-track action starts from 9.50am tomorrow, when support category Combined Sedans heads out for their first practice session. Australian Superbikes, Supercars and Stadium Super Trucks will follow them on track throughout the day.

As the sun slips lower in the sky it’s time to turn things up a notch with Nitro Up North. Featuring the Aeroflow Outlaw Nitro Funny Cars, Top Doorslammers, Jet Dragster, special exhibition drags and Sportsman Racing, Nitro Up North is pure entertainment.

Aeroflow Outlaw Nitro Funny Cars Series Manager Morice McMillin said the teams were super excited to be back in the NT, and to be part of the motorsport spectacular.

“There is an awesome field of funny cars ready to put on a ground-pounding show at more than 400km/h for the Darwin fans, as well as fan favourite Wheelstander and some world-class door slammers. With an open pit area it’s an incredible chance to see these awesome machines and meet the drivers,” he said.

The action kicks off from 5pm tomorrow, and you can expect plenty of smoke as these high-octane rigs hurtle down the drag strip at speeds in excess of 440km/h, complete with chest-thumping roars that take your breath away.

The action continues on Saturday and Sunday with the Supercars, Australian Superbikes, Stadium Super Trucks and the Combined Sedans. Matt Mingay and his incredible Hotwheels Stuntz Crew is set to wow the crowds.

On Saturday night, there will be a concert featuring Australian rock sensation Bernard Fanning and more.
