Arafura Games: Stage is set for Opening Celebrations

Excitement is growing for the Arafura Games’ star-studded Opening Celebration tomorrow night at the Darwin Waterfront.

The production features some of the Territory’s greatest Aboriginal musicians as well as local artists and cultural groups in what has become a highly anticipated Opening Celebration.

The festivities will begin as the sun sets with a special Larrakia Welcome to Country followed by unique performances from artists and community leaders. The NT Dance Company, choreographed by local Larrakia man Gary Lang along with guest artists Shellie Morris and Leah Flanagan, will be a highlight.

Award-winning hip hop artist, the Fresh Prince of Arnhem Land, Baker Boy will close the night with his infectious raps in Yolngu Matha before the night sky comes alive with an eruption of fireworks to officially open the Arafura Games 2019.

The production is the brainchild of local companies ACCOMPLICE and Party Passport, and will be directed by Artistic Director Ben Graetz.

“As a locally born Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander man, I am so thrilled to be presenting the Arafura Games Opening Celebration to our community and showcasing the extraordinary talents that the NT has to offer.” said Graetz.
